Why It Can Make More Economic Sense To Rent A Crane In Houston Than Purchase One

By Martin Newsome

There are a lot of businesses that need heavy equipment occasionally in order to complete difficult jobs. Unless this kind of equipment is something the business has a use for on a regular basis, it often makes more economic sense to lease cranes and other expensive items than purchase them outright. A lot goes into whether or not a Texas company decides to Buy A Crane In Houston.

It is not unusual for cranes to cost in excess of five hundred thousand dollars. Owners have to decide if purchasing one will save money, over time, as opposed to renting regularly. For businesses that use different types of cranes, the expense is potentially enormous. Renting them is not cheap either. One usually runs several hundred dollars an hour.

One of the advantages of renting heavy equipment is that the rental company usually offers to provide an operator along with it. This person has usually operated the particular piece of equipment in the past and is familiar with any peculiarities it might have. The rental company prefers to have their own employees operating the equipment. This leaves you free to handle other areas of the job.

Keeping heavy equipment in good working order and in compliance with all the safety guidelines can take a lot of time and money. Repairing the pieces when they break down is even more expensive. Instead of spending your own money, it is often preferable to lease the equipment and leave maintaining it to someone else. Most rental companies will require businesses to sign a maintenance contract, but that is certainly more affordable than having a full time maintenance crew on staff.

When you are dealing with heavy equipment, safety is always a concern. Renting the pieces that are independently maintained, repaired, and certified to have met all required safety rules and regulations, takes the responsibility out of your hands. If the equipment breaks down, you can call the company to have their own people inspect the equipment and evaluate the problem.

By renting cranes, instead of purchasing, you will have the convenience of being able to swap one out if the job demands it. You never know when a situation will arise where you will need another type of crane for some reason. You certainly don't want to have to purchase an expensive item for one time use. In the event that your crane goes down and needs repair, you will be in a situation where you are forced to rent one anyway while yours out of commission.

You sometimes make plans for your crew to handle a job manually because of the information given by a client. When you actually get to the site, you could find a completely different situation. If you suddenly need special equipment, you can always call the leasing company and still meet your deadlines.

Having your own equipment is great. Being able to afford expensive cranes can be a symbol of success. Unless your business demands heavy equipment on a regular basis however, it probably makes more sense to rent.
