Advantages Of Using Hydroseeding In Farming

By Douglas Edwards

The word hydroseeding may be new especially to those who are unfamiliar with agricultural terms. This is the process of planting that uses a mixture of mulch and seeds to produce nutrients. It is mainly used in growing lawn grass which is a process that requires a lot of time. It is very environmentally friendly and can be used as a part of the plan for sustainable agriculture.

Sometimes, the color of lawn grass is too green to be true. This is however not harmful as the color used nowadays is eco-friendly. In the past, malachite green was used, and people saw it to be harmful to the environment. There were complaints in Minnesota that this chemical affects their water sources and also their marine life.

A professional landscaper should be able to tell which grass is native to which land. This way, the client will have an easy time knowing what grass to put on their lawn. Sometimes, the lawn already has some trees, but the owner wants to keep them. In such a case, recommend the native grass that does not require a lot of maintenance.

It can improve the soil quality of an area. First off, the professional may use inorganic or organic soil conditioners that not only help improve the health of the already pleasant plants but also the drainage and aeration of the soil. Application from a sprayer is a lot quicker and cost-effective. This is because spraying actually takes half of the time you would have spent on other methods.

It is a method of controlling soil erosion. We all know that when the soil is left exposed, the wind is bound to pick up on it and blow it away. The mulch, however, covers the soil and it can hardly be blown away as long as the mulch has some water. The mulch also improves the water retention of the soil. This means there are a lot more nutrients in the soil.

The grass seeds are able to grow in an easier way. As before mentioned, there is moisture retention so at no point will the plant dry up because of lack of water. There is no seed dormancy as the seed gets all the requirements it needs to grow. The plant needs a certain degree of temperature in order grow as needed. The temperature is kept in check by the mulch.

There is the element of water conservation. The mulch is always moist and has high water retention. This means that it provides the required amount in the root system. The root system also has an adaptation that helps the whole plant survive. It elongates and is able to access water underground. This makes it a lot more tolerant in the dry seasons.

Weeds are some of the threats that cause plants not to grow. If not uprooted, they may completely kill the plants. But since their seeds are not included in the spray, it may be hard for them to appear anywhere near the plant. The mulch also suffocates the weeds before they get the chance to thrive into healthy plants.
