A California Contractors License School In Los Angeles Will Start You On Your Way To A Career In Construction

By Jeffrey Boutte

If you are looking for something lucrative to do after high school, and like working with your hands, you might consider the construction industry. This is not something you can just jump into however. Any job valued over five hundred dollars requires licensing and bonding on your part. If you are still interested, you need to fill out the application, gather the requisite documentation, and pass the test. The easiest way to pass the test on the first attempt is to complete a course that a reputable California Contractors License School In Los Angeles offers.

There are a number of reputable schools in the area. License Instruction Schools have been in business for almost four decades. They are purported to be among the largest schools in this country. Thousands of students have taken their courses, passed their exams, and had successful careers in the construction industry. These schools cover all of the forty-three contractor classifications California recognizes.

You have three study options with the Intelligence School. You may take the courses online, at home, or in the classroom. If you decide to take the in-class course, it is designed to be taken two days before the actual exam. You may do the in-home study course in your own time. You could also complete the course online. The online option gives you ninety days to take the practice tests that are offered.

The Online Contractor School is, as the name indicates, online only. You can get study manuals and practice tests for each of the forty-three contracting classifications. You should do well if you are self-disciplined and take the work seriously. Once you have paid the eighty-five dollar course fee, you will have access to the practice tests for ninety days.

Once you've successfully passed this examination, you must take the Asbestos open book test. The manual is free and accessible online. The exam is located on the last pages of the manual. After taking this exam, you send the licensing board in Sacramento a filled out verification form, the application, and a license fee notice.

The board will not issue a license unless you show proof that you have a bond. A cash deposit of fifteen thousand dollars for the licensing bond is required, as of January 2016. You may also be required to submit a cash deposit for a qualifying individual in the amount of twelve thousand five hundred dollars.

You have to know which type of bond, or bonds, you are going to need. For example, if you intend to do both electrical and general contracting, you will need a bond for each one. To be allowed to bid on public jobs, a performance bond is required. All of this can be applied for online. After you get the bond, you sign it, copy it, and send it into the state. The normal turnaround time is one to three weeks to get the contractor's license.

There are a lot of opportunities in the construction industry. Many people have lucrative careers, especially when they win bids on large projects. Before you can do anything though, you must apply, take the test, and get the bonds you need.
